Ruled by time
January 23, 2006
Time flies! Fall is over, winter break is over, and here I am, face to face with the beginning of the Spring term. Many things have happened that are worthy, and even necessary, to write about. The new life in California, the first semester back in school, the beginning of a rebuilding project in Louisiana, the successful end of the participative design-building project in El Salvador, and the news that Esteban, an old builder, tutor and friend who has been featured in images here in the web site since the beginning passed away tragically. I decided, however, that I would use the holiday break to go forward with the technical set-up of Ethnoarch, and get as close as I could to finish the technological part before going to contents. I feel like I didn't do much, but I actually got a lot of the templates work done (the site is using now 34 different templates for 284 web pages). I also managed to bring back to life a section I had started but then shut off, a section of "articles" (as something separated from this personal notes section). The only article in that section for now is the site's launching statement, published in November 2004, but I have several other articles I will be publishing soon. I want that statement to be visible in the home page for a few days, and that's why I will not publish the others for now. I also plan to publish some new posts about life and work. I don't know if it is a good or a bad sign when you can't reflect on what you do because you have been doing so much. It feels good to be busy, but it is also necessary to stop and reflect, despite sitting and thinking not always sounds as work in a discipline as architecture in which "real doing" is what the work is mostly about...
