Description |
Portrait of Carlos Marcelo in the canoe to Siehuaya. After we paid him for the pictures he asked us to wait; he went to his house, where he picked up an empty 40-pound gas container. Then he asked if we could take him with us in our way back to Chiritza, and drop him off at a bodega where he would buy some cooking gas.
It moves me to think about the Secoyas' economic struggle; how it is not rare for them just to run out of fuel and have hard times to cook. It is a very paradoxical situation, since they live at a walking distance of an oil exploitation site, which is, by the way, located on their own land.
